UNDERGROUND NATURE
Underground Nature
My work explores an intimate, organic universe I call Underground Nature — a space shaped by natural forms, animalistic energy, and layered processes. It is a quiet world beneath the surface, where images evolve slowly through material, time, and transformation.
I work with oil painting, mixed media oil painting, and photo collage. While my work is not purely figurative, it is grounded in classical compositional principles. Structure and balance form the foundation on which organic expression unfolds.
I was born and raised in Prague, Czech Republic, and have lived in Norway since 1982. I received my main artistic education at Christiania Friakademi in Oslo (2002–2007), under the supervision of Jan Cato Bøttger. Since then, I have participated in solo and group exhibitions in Norway (Oslo), England, Luxembourg, and Germany (Leipzig).
In my oil paintings, I prepare and stretch each canvas myself, using 100% pure linen or cotton. I work with high-quality pigments, ground and mixed with cold-pressed linseed oil. The painting process begins by covering the entire surface with multiple layers of color, allowing the motif to emerge gradually through depth and transparency.
My mixed-media oil paintings combine traditional oil painting with photography printed directly onto canvas. Painted and photographic elements merge into a single, unified surface, forming a single image.
My photo collages are based on macro photography of nature and involve digital processing, transformation, and the layering of organic elements. These works are produced as limited-edition Giclée prints on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 g/m², resulting in high-resolution fine art prints with finely tuned color and sharpness. All editions are signed and numbered.
Art prints of paintings are fine art–quality Giclée reproductions of my original oil paintings. Using high-resolution scanning, each print captures the nuances of color, light, shadow, and surface. All editions are signed and numbered.
